Take a look inside to see the amazing artwork.

From the first Depression-era comic books to the beloved characters of Marvel and DC, including Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. Using more than 70 interviews with creators, commentators, actors, and filmmakers, the authors will dive into the culture and the context that gave rise to the beloved heroes that continue to grow in popularity and the ways that these characters have been shaped and changed by American culture at every incarnation.

This will be a cultural and historical perspective of superheroes, including key players from both Marvel and DC. It will feature character biographies as well as the stories of the artists and writers that brought them to life. Above all, it will explore how the evolution of the archetypes, characters, and storylines was shaped by the changing cultural climate. With four-color illustrations and dynamic sidebars throughout, this will be the definitive volume of superhero history.
